Prague is the capital and largest city of the Central European Republic of the Czech Republic. The official name is hlavní město Praha, which means capital of Prague. The municipality of Prague forms its own district, an okres, and region, a kraj. In addition, it is the capital of the Central Bohemia region, although the city is not part of it.
Prague is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and the historic center is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Golden City, as one of the nicknames of Prague reads, lies on the Vltava River. During the existence of the Czechoslovakia state up to and including 1992, Prague was the capital of this nation.
